corona virus

“CORONAVIRUS” – new weapon of Cyber Attackers. We are currently experiencing a global threat -Coronavirus (COVID-19), faced by people all around the world. COVID-19 has caused apprehension globally, making ultimate lockdown. Meanwhile, shutting of shops and malls, travel bans, shut down of offices, control on the accumulation of people, and whatnot. As a result, COVID-19 forced companies to shut down and let their employees “Work from Home”. To keep them secure and other people from this virus. The number of people going home quarantine has been increasing day by day.

Cyber Attackers

“Cyber Attackers/Hackers have taken the advantage and have started luring the people by their tricks.” A major source of this outbreak is WHO( World health organization ) which gives updates about the COVID-19. Above all fraudsters pretend to be the member of WHO sending emails to potential clients and getting information from them. These links can install malware, steal your personal information. Or can be a ransomware attack, or an attempt to capture all your credentials. Cybercriminals send email links to various organizations pretending to give information about the COVID-19. In short people with no other source believe in this and get hacked at no time.

Is it really the “Deadly Corona Virus Map”?

In other words, the emails are sending “Deadly Corona Virus Map”. It assures to give all information about how many people were affected, cured, and the deaths that occurred country/city/state-wise. On the other hand, Fraudsters know that people now need face masks to protect themselves. Covid 19 has increased, the demand for different sanitation products has increased. Fraudsters manipulate their victims through emails to buy their products. In exchange, getting their financial information, and sensitive personal information. By clicking the link credentials are sent to the hacker. To sum up, we can protect ourselves by staying calm, and stay aware of cyber frauds, and not believing in fake news.

For Instance, Here are some tips which can keep you safe:-

  • ✓ Try not to click on any anonymous link, remember that WHO does not send email from addresses ending in ‘@who.com’, ‘@who.org’ or ‘@who-safety.org’. Avoid clicking on links and downloading attached documents.
  • ✓Don’t go on links deliberately asking to fill in your personal information or asking for money and don’t do the communications that asks for credentials.
  • ✓ Be aware of fake news. Install anti-virus software on your mobile phones and look for “s” in HTTP
  • ✓ Download the apps from Google Play or App store which are authentic, never download them from any third-party site.
